WHAT’S INCLUDED

Enrollment that doesn’t stall your start date.

Initial credentialing

Applications, Data Spring (formerly CAQH), and payer packets assembled so new clinicians aren’t waiting on paperwork.

Recredentialing

Dates are tracked and packets go out before a panel expires, not after you get a termination letter.

Payer contracting

Network enrollment and contract follow-up with the payers your practice actually needs.

Rate review

Transparency Act data used to see whether the offered fee schedule is in range before you sign.

Revalidations & updates

PECOS, Medicaid, and demographic changes handled so claims don’t reject on an old NPI or address.

New provider adds

Add-a-provider is part of the RCM relationship, not a separate project with a separate invoice.

THE TENNESSEE PATH

Three payer groups. Three different processes.

Medicare (Palmetto GBA)

Medicare enrollment for Tennessee providers goes through PECOS and is processed by Palmetto GBA, the Jurisdiction J Medicare Administrative Contractor for Tennessee. Revalidations and changes such as address, ownership, or adding a provider to a group go through the same channel.

TennCare (Medicaid)

TennCare comes before the MCOs. Individual providers register electronically with TennCare and complete their profile in Data Spring (formerly CAQH). TennCare issues a Medicaid ID once the profile is approved. Without an active Medicaid ID, a provider can’t be considered for contracting with any TennCare MCO. After that, each MCO, including BlueCare, Wellpoint, and UnitedHealthcare Community Plan, is credentialed and contracted separately.

Commercial payers

BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee (BCBST), Cigna, Aetna, Humana, and Ambetter each run their own application, credentialing committee, and contract. Most expect a current, attested CAQH/Data Spring profile.

How long does it take?

It varies by payer. Some panels take a few weeks; others take several months. A complete packet and steady follow-up are the parts we control, so that’s where we put our effort.

HOW IT WORKS

From packet to panel without the chase.

You send the documents. We submit, follow up, and tell you when you’re actually in network.

1. Intake

We collect CAQH, licenses, malpractice, and W-9s against a checklist so the file is complete the first time.

2. Submit

Applications go to the payers on your list, not a generic national stack.

3. Follow-up

We work the payers until there’s a decision. You get status, not a portal login.

4. Live

You’re panelled and contracted. New providers follow the same path as part of RCM.

INCLUDED WITH RCM

Credentialing and billing belong together.

Credentialing and contracting are provided at no additional cost when you partner with us for full revenue cycle management. The team that enrolls your provider is the same team that bills their first claim, so nothing falls through the gap between “approved” and “paid.” Switching from another biller? We also take over and work the old A/R they left behind. See pricing · Tennessee Medical Billing & RCM

FAQ

Questions about credentialing in Tennessee.

Is credentialing really included with RCM?

Yes. Credentialing, recredentialing, and contracting are part of the RCM engagement. There isn’t a separate enrollment invoice.

How long does credentialing take in Tennessee?

It varies by payer. Some panels take a few weeks; others take several months. We submit complete packets and follow up so the file isn’t sitting untouched.

Do we need a TennCare Medicaid ID before joining BlueCare, Wellpoint, or UHC Community Plan?

Yes. TennCare requires providers to register and receive an active Medicaid ID before any TennCare MCO can consider them for contracting. Each MCO is then contracted separately.

Who handles Medicare enrollment for Tennessee providers?

Palmetto GBA, the Jurisdiction J Medicare Administrative Contractor, processes Medicare enrollment for Tennessee. Applications and revalidations are submitted through PECOS.

Do we have to use CAQH?

Most commercial payers expect a current Data Spring (formerly CAQH) profile, and TennCare uses it for individual providers. We use your existing profile or help you set one up as part of intake.

Can you credential us if we don’t use Crusader for billing?

Enrollment-only work is possible, but the included pricing applies to RCM clients. Ask on the consult and we’ll tell you which path fits.
